Dear Number Five School family:
I hope that this monthly letter finds you all well. Due to the snowstorm on Friday, our closing ceremonies for the Winter Olympics were held this morning. What an outstanding interdisciplinary performance it was! Yes, that’s right! Thanks to the collaborate efforts of our staff, facilitated by our Physical Education Department, every class took part in this event. Each first and second grade class chose a country, displayed their flag and marched onto the stage to the national anthem of their country while the third and fourth graders talked about each of the sporting events represented at the Winter Olympics through video clips as well as demonstration. Students even came dressed in the appropriate outfits for their sport! A most impressive video montage highlighting our children participating in each of these sporting events during PE class followed! Look for upcoming pictures of this event as well as our Annual Second Grade Chinese New Year Parade which was held this afternoon!
Our Number Five School staff is eagerly looking forward to a most worthwhile month ahead filled with myriad activities and programs that continue to enhance our shared sense of community and allow for academic, social and emotional growth for your children.
Our teachers take much pride in preparing for Parent Teacher Conferences that will be held this Thursday, March 4, 2010. The report cards they have prepared clearly reflect the strengths and challenges that your children face as learners. Your individual conference will provide you with an opportunity to talk with your child’s teacher and learn more about their progress in all areas of the curriculum. I know that you share the importance of this evening as part of your responsibility as parents. Please make every effort to arrive on time and make accommodations for someone to remain home with your child so that your full attention can be on the conversation between you and the teacher. I know that it will be a most informative session as each teacher has spent many hours reflecting on the learning that has taken place over the past three months.
Our annual PTA sponsored Book Fair will be held this Wednesday, March 3rd and Thursday, March 4th. This event is one of the highlights of our school year. I know that you will be very pleased with the book choices. All of the books that will be displayed have been carefully chosen to meet the varied interests and levels of our students. Please check your child’s class time and share in this most exciting activity.
As you may have heard, the Third Grade Multiplication Bee was a great success. I was so impressed with how well all of our children did. They were well prepared and had a great time. The fourth graders, who were most supportive during the Bee, will have the opportunity to take center stage on Friday, March 19, 2010. The amount of responses that we received in terms of completed math logs are absolute indicators of how close the Bee will be! Please look for information pertaining to Math Day(s) to be held on Wednesday, March 24th , Thursday, March 25th and Friday, March 26th.

Espero que se encuentren bien con esta carta del mes. Debido a la tormenta de nieve el viernes, nuestra ceremonia de clausura de los Juegos Olímpicos se celebraron esta mañana. ¡Fue una actuación destacada! Gracias a los esfuerzos de colaboración de nuestro personal, facilitada por nuestro departamento de educación física, cada clase tomó parte en este evento.Cada clase de primer y segundo grado eligió a un país y llevaba la bandera mientras marchaba alrededor del auditorio mientras el himno nacional de su país sonaba. Mientras tanto el tercer y cuarto grado hablo acerca de cada uno de los deportes representados en los Juegos Olímpicos. Algunos estudiantes incluso se vistieron con la ropa adecuada del deporte. Después un montaje siguió de un vídeo impresionante destacando a nuestros niños participando en cada uno de estos eventos deportivos durante la clase de Educación Física!
Nuestro personal de la Escuela Número Cinco está esperando un mes más lleno de una multitud de actividades y programas que continuarán para mejorar nuestro sentimiento compartido de comunidad y permitir el crecimiento académico, social y emocional para sus hijos.
Nuestros profesores toman mucho orgullo en la preparación de las conferencias que será este jueves, 4 de marzo de 2010. Las tarjetas de informe que se han preparado reflejan claramente los puntos fuertes y los desafíos que enfrentan a sus hijos como estudiantes. Su Conferencia individual le proporcionará una oportunidad para hablar con el maestro de su hijo y obtener más información acerca de su progreso en todas las áreas del currículo. Sé que usted comparte la importancia de esta noche. Por favor, haga todo lo posible para llegar a tiempo y hacer adaptaciones para alguien que se quede en casa con su hijo para que usted pueda poner toda su atención en la conversación entre usted y el maestro. Sé que será una sesión más informativa como cada profesor ha pasado muchas horas en el aprendizaje que ha tenido lugar en los últimos tres meses.
La Feria de Libros anual patrocinado por nuestra PTA se llevará a cabo este miércoles, el 3 de marzo y el jueves, 4 de marzo. Este evento es uno de los aspectos más destacados de nuestro año escolar. Sé que estarán muy satisfechos con las opciones de libros. Todos los libros que se mostrarán han sido cuidadosamente seleccionados para satisfacer los niveles de nuestros estudiantes y variados intereses. Por favor compruebe la hora que la clase de su hijo va a asistir y comparte en esta actividad más emocionante.
Como ya saben, el Certamen de Multiplicacióndel Tercer grado fue un gran éxito. Estaba tan impresionada con lo bien que hicieron los niños. Ellos estaban bien preparados y tuvieron un gran tiempo. Los alumnos del cuarto grado, quienes apoyaron a los del tercer grado durante el Certamen, tendrán la oportunidad de tomar el centro de la escena el viernes, 19 de marzo de 2010. La cantidad de respuestas que hemos recibido en términos de registros completos de matemáticas son indicadores absolutos de lo cerca que serán los resultados del Certamen! Por favor, busque información relativa a los días de matemáticas que se celebrará el miércoles, 24 de marzo, el jueves 25 de marzo y el viernes, 26 de marzo.
