Principal's Message

August 2010

Dear Number Five Families,

How exciting it is for me to be writing this letter! I hope you are having a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable summer with your children, family and friends. This is a perfect time to do all of the things you wanted to do during the year. As I was unpacking the many boxes of books I have brought with me and settling in to my office, I was reflecting on how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to work in such a warm, caring and supportive community. I am so delighted to be here.

The education and safety of your children is as important to me as it is to you. Learning should be enjoyable and inspiring for all children while they are encouraged to expand their minds and become independent thinkers and learners in the 21st century. I will do everything I can to ensure the educational success for all children.

I have many ideas which I hope to share with you and move forward with. Of course, my first and most important goal is to become familiar with the Number Five School community. I intend to hold Parent Chats and offer workshops as the year begins to unfold. Your involvement in our PTA is important as well. Please try to make yourselves available when regularly scheduled PTA meetings or workshops take place. Your children can only benefit from your participation.

During my walks through our beautiful building, it is apparent that there is a sense of community and involvement here. The building blocks for this foundation have begun, and I intend to make it even stronger. When parents, teachers and administrators all have one goal in mind – success for all children – the foundation will only become stronger.

Please join me on Wednesday, September 15th at 8:15 am. for “Coffee with Ms. Levine.” I look forward to this informal gathering where we can begin to become acquainted with one another.

It is a privilege to be working in such a “fine, fine school” where everyone strives to do his/her best.  Academic rigor, respect, cooperation and involvement are ingrained in the culture of the Number Five School. I cannot wait to meet all of you on Opening Day,Tuesday, September 7th.

Take care and enjoy the rest of your summer.
I know we are going to be a great team!

My best,

Helene M. Levine
