LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (OCTOBER 2023)—Family Literacy Night was recently celebrated at both Lawrence Elementary School and Lawrence Primary School., The annual event at both schools is designed to promote the importance of reading and literacy among students and their families.
At Family Literacy Night, families participated in a variety of literacy-based activities. These included read-aloud sessions, setting reading promises, and playing literacy board games. These activities are crafted to foster a love for reading and to highlight the importance of literacy in everyday life.
“We believe that literacy is the foundation of all learning. Family Literacy Night is part of Lawrence Elementary and Lawrence Primary Schools’ ongoing commitment to promoting literacy and developing students’ appreciation for and enjoyment in reading,” said Dr. Ann Pedersen, Superintendent of Schools. “Events like Family Literacy Night not only encourage reading among our students but also involve their families in the learning process.”
One of the highlights of the evening was the book giveaway. Students were able to leave with books of their choice, promoting the idea that reading is not just for school but also for pleasure. A variety of prizes were also awarded throughout the night, adding an element of excitement to the event.
