LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (OCTOBER 2022)—Lawrence Union Free School District’s Pre-K students celebrated National Fire Prevention Week with a visit from firefighters of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week which was started in 1922 by the National Fire Protection Agency. This year’s theme is Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.
“Thank you to the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department for paying a visit to our young learners,” said Patricia Almonaitis, Lawrence Union Free School District Pre-Kindergarten Director. “It’s important to educate our students about keeping safe and what to do in case of an emergency.”
The students had a meaningful conversation about the importance of having a fire escape plan and fire prevention. The students were excited to see firefighters in their full gear as they had a hands-on educational experience taking turns looking at different types of firefighter equipment. After, the students reenacted and drew about what they learned from the firefighters.
