On May 10th, students in the chess club at the Lawrence Primary School participated in the final chess tournament of the 2022-2023 school year. The students with the most wins throughout the year, played against the “mystery chess player." The mystery players were former Chess Club students from Ms. McDonough’s third grade class. The final chess tournament ended in some exciting matches, treats, prizes and certificates for all!
Students used critical thinking skills all year to master the game of chess. This club engages analytical thinking skills, problem solving, reasoning thinking and how to win and lose gracefully. It fosters healthy competition amongst youngsters and teaches children how to play fairly. The game of chess is a lifelong game and the children at the Lawrence Primary School have truly developed a great love of chess over the course of this past school year.
