Families from our Early Childhood Center, Lawrence Primary School and Lawrence Elementary School joined us for a night of mathematics on Thursday, February 9th. This K - 6 event focused on our families partnering together to participate in a variety of activities while learning methods to help our children develop into a lifelong mathematicians!
Throughout the night, families participated in four different stations that each taught how mathematics can occur anywhere and with anything!
- Station 1: In honor of the 100th day of school (February 10th), students completed relay races up to 100. For each relay line, staff worked with students to use math to identify how much each student needed to complete in line to reach 100.
- Station 2: Families were shown educational videos that students can watch at home that practice mathematical skills of counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division! Some examples of these videos can be found below.
- Station 3: Families played various mathematical board games with their children, and their school peers. Each game focused on a different mathematical skill and demonstrated the fun that can be had with math. One of each game played throughout the night was raffled off to various lucky winners!
- Station 4: Families learned about mathematical programs utilized in school to practice mathematical concepts. These programs, IXL and First in Math, provide students with accessible lessons to practice grade level concepts, as well as fluency skills in mathematics.
